One of the most highly respected accrediting agencies is the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Accreditation is especially important for certification, licensing and finding employment (more on accreditation later). So if you are dedicated enough to attend classes outside of the classroom in the comfort of your own home, then an online school may be the right choice for you.

Questions to ask Goldens Bridge NY ultrasound technician schoolsWhen you have determined the type of degree or certificate that you would like to earn, you can initiate the procedure of assessing and comparing ultrasound technician colleges. You may first want to decide whether you would rather attend classes online or commute to a college campus in the Goldens Bridge NY area. Of course location will be significant if you choose the latter, and the cost of tuition no doubt will be an initial qualification also. But there are additional factors that you must also take into consideration, for example if the colleges are accredited and if they provide internship programs. Therefore in order to perform your due diligence so that you can arrive at your ultimate selection, below are a few questions that you need ask each ultrasound tech program prior to making a decision.

Are the Ultrasound Tech Programs Accredited? A large number of ultrasound tech schools have obtained some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. Nevertheless, it’s still crucial to make sure that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Programs receiving accreditation from the JRC-DMS have gone through a detailed review of their instructors and course materials. If the college is online it can also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance education. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a superior education, accreditation will also help in obtaining financial aid and student loans, which are many times not accessible for non-accredited schools. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And many Goldens Bridge NY employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry-level openings.

Are Internship Programs Offered? Inquire if the sonogram technician colleges you are interested in have relationships with Goldens Bridge NY hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships a great way to receive practical experience in a clinical setting, they are additionally a way to satisfy the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a secondary benefit, they may help graduates and students develop professional relationships in the Goldens Bridge healthcare community and assist with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Help offered? You will probably want to hit the ground running after graduating, but finding that first job in a new field can be difficult without help. Ask if the sonographer programs you are assessing have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have sizable networks and good relationships with New York healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their students are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the School Located? For a number of students, the school they pick will need to be within commuting distance of their Goldens Bridge NY residence. Those who have chosen to attend classes online obviously will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of concern. Something to bear in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a program that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges typically charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges frequently charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the type of student that likes to sit far in the rear of class or get lost in the crowd, you will undoubtedly want a smaller class size. Smaller classes permit more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the colleges you are looking at what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your final determination. This will also give you an opportunity to speak with several of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the sonogram technician program as well.

Does the College Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to confirm that the ultrasound tech  program you ultimately choose can furnish the class schedule you need. This is especially important if you decide to continue working while you attend school. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in the Goldens Bridge NY area, check that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, verify if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would have to enroll in. Also, learn what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss because of work, illness or family emergencies.

    Goldens Bridge, New York

Goldens Bridge is in the western part of the town, adjacent to Interstate 684 and the Croton River. Goldens Bridge is a suburb of New York City, as it is located about 30 miles (48 km) north of the Bronx.

According to The New York Times, "Colonial geographers and surveyors identified a crossing over the Croton River in the Goldens Bridge area as early as 1750. The early maps refer to the bridge by different names, including Coldens Bridge, Goldings Bridge and Goldens Bridge. The bridge was washed away and rebuilt a number of times as the area around the crossing began to grow into a depot for farm produce from Connecticut and Salem and a stop for travelers along the river. But there is no trace of the bridge today as it lies under the Croton Reservoir, which was created when the Croton River was dammed around the turn of the 20th century."[2]

In the mid-20th century, the hamlet was home to a majority Jewish community, which governed itself under communal living standards, with many residents considering the community to be the true owner of the land their homes were built upon. Bridge L-158, a railroad bridge, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.[3]
