One of the most highly regarded accrediting agencies is the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). You will first probably want to choose whether you would rather attend classes online or travel to a college campus in the Slayden TN area. Naturally location will be significant if you decide on the latter, and the price of tuition undoubtedly will be an initial qualification as well. So in order to complete your due diligence so that you can arrive at your final selection, below are several questions that you need ask each sonographer college prior to making a decision.

Are the Ultrasound Tech Colleges Accredited? A large number of sonogram technician colleges have obtained some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. Even so, it’s still imperative to confirm that the program and school are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Programs earning accreditation from the JRC-DMS have undergone an extensive review of their teachers and educational materials. If the school is online it may also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online learning. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides ensuring a quality education, accreditation will also assist in getting financial assistance and student loans, which are frequently not offered for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And many Slayden TN employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited school for entry-level openings.

Are Internship Programs Offered? Inquire if the ultrasound tech programs you are assessing have partnerships with Slayden TN clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships a great way to receive hands on experience in a clinical setting, they are also a means to satisfy the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a supplemental benefit, they can assist graduates and students establish professional connections in the Slayden health care community and help with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Assistance provided? You will probably wish to secure employment quickly after graduation, but finding that first job in a new profession can be difficult without support. Find out if the ultrasound tech schools you are considering have job placement programs and what their success rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good indication that the schools have sizable networks and great relationships with Tennessee healthcare employers. It also confirms that their students are well regarded and sought after.

Where is the Program Located? For many students, the school they pick will have to be within travelling distance of their Slayden TN home. Students who have chosen to attend classes online naturally will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. One thing to keep in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges generally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges commonly charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of person that prefers to sit way in the back of class or get lost in the crowd, you will undoubtedly prefer a small class size. Small classes permit more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the schools you are looking at what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you an opportunity to talk with some of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the sonogram tech program as well.

Can the School Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you need to verify that the ultrasound tech  college you finally choose can offer the class schedule you need. This is especially essential if you opt to continue working while you attend school. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in the Slayden TN area, confirm that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, check if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would need to carry. Also, ask what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss due to work, illness or family emergencies.
