Certainly location will be critical if you select the latter, and the price of tuition undoubtedly will be an important qualifier as well. But there are additional factors that you should also take into account, for instance if the colleges are accredited and if they offer internship programs. Therefore in order to complete your due diligence so that you can arrive at your ultimate selection, below are some questions that you need ask each sonography program before deciding.

Are the Sonogram Tech Programs Accredited? The majority of sonogram technician colleges have obtained some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. Even so, it’s still crucial to verify that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly regarded accrediting organizations in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Schools obtaining accreditation from the JRC-DMS have gone through a detailed examination of their instructors and educational materials. If the school is online it may also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets online or distance learning. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a superior education, accreditation will also assist in obtaining financial aid and student loans, which are often not offered for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And many Curwensville PA health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry-level openings.

Are Internships Offered? Find out if the sonogram tech schools you are assessing have associations with Curwensville PA hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific means to receive hands on experience in a clinical environment, they are also a way to satisfy the clinical training requirement for most programs. As a secondary benefit, they may help graduates and students form professional connections in the Curwensville health care community and help with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Assistance provided? You will most likely wish to secure employment quickly after graduating, but finding that first job in a new field can be challenging without support. Ask if the sonographer programs you are reviewing have job placement programs and what their success rates are. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have large networks and good relationships with Pennsylvania healthcare employers. It also confirms that their students are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the Program Located? For many students, the college they decide on will need to be within travelling distance of their Curwensville PA home. Students who have decided to attend online classes obviously will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. One thing to bear in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a school that is out of state or even out of your local area, you may be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges often charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges normally charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the type of student that prefers to sit far in the back of class or get lost in the crowd, you will likely want a smaller class size. Smaller classes permit more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the colleges you are looking at what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate determination. This will also give you a chance to speak with several of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the ultrasound tech program also.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to confirm that the ultrasound tech  program you ultimately pick can offer the class schedule you need. This is especially essential if you opt to continue working while attending school. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in the Curwensville PA area, verify that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, verify if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would need to enroll in. Also, ask what the protocol is for making up any classes that you might miss due to illness, work or family obligations.
