Although many work as generalists there are specializations within the profession, for instance in pediatrics and cardiology. The majority practice in Concordville PA clinics, hospitals, private practices or outpatient diagnostic imaging centers. Common daily work duties of an ultrasound technician may include:

  • Keeping records of patient medical histories and details of each procedure

  • Preparing the ultrasound machines for testing and then sterilizing and re-calibrating them
  • Moving patients to treatment rooms and ensuring their comfort
  • Using equipment while minimizing patient exposure to sound waves

Ultrasound techs must regularly gauge the performance and safety of their machines. They also are held to a high ethical standard and code of conduct as medical practitioners. In order to maintain that degree of professionalism and stay up to date with medical knowledge, they are required to enroll in continuing education programs on a regular basis.

Ultrasound Tech Degree Programs Available

Concordville PA ultrasound technician performing sonographySonogram technician students have the opportunity to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree will usually take about 18 months to 2 years to complete depending on the program and class load. A Bachelor’s Degree will require more time at up to four years to finalize. Another alternative for individuals who have previously received a college degree is a post graduate certificate program. If you have obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in any major or an Associate Degree in a related health sector, you can enroll in a certificate program that will take just 12 to 18 months to finish. One thing to bear in mind is that most sonographer programs do have a clinical training element as a portion of their curriculum. It can often be fulfilled by taking part in an internship program which many colleges set up with Concordville PA clinics and hospitals. After you have graduated from any of the certificate or degree programs, you will then need to comply with the licensing or certification prerequisites in Pennsylvania or whichever state you decide to practice in.

Online Ultrasound Technician Classes

student attending online sonography class in Concordville PAAs previously mentioned, almost all ultrasound tech schools have a practical requirement to their programs. So while you can receive a degree or certificate online, a significant portion of the training will be either conducted in an on-campus laboratory or at an authorized off-campus medical care provider. Practical training can typically be satisfied through an internship at a local Concordville PA hospital, outpatient clinic or private practice. However the balance of the training and classes may be accessed online in your Concordville home. This is particularly beneficial for those individuals that continue working while obtaining their degrees. In addition online schools are frequently more affordable than traditional options. Costs for commuting and study materials can be reduced as well. But similarly as with every ultrasound tech college you are looking at, verify that the online program you choose is accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting agencies is the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Accreditation is particularly crucial for certification, licensing and finding employment (more on accreditation later). So if you are dedicated enough to attend classes away from the classroom in the comfort of your own home, then an online school may be the ideal option for you.

Subjects to Ask Ultrasound Technician Schools

Questions to ask Concordville PA ultrasound technician schoolsAfter you have determined the type of degree or certificate that you would like to earn, you can begin the process of reviewing and comparing ultrasound tech schools. You may first want to decide whether you would rather access classes online or travel to a college campus in the Concordville PA area. Naturally location will be important if you choose the latter, and the cost of tuition undoubtedly will be an important qualification as well. But there are additional variables that you must also take into account, for example if the schools are accredited and if they sponsor internship programs. Therefore in order to complete your due diligence so that you can arrive at your final selection, below are a few questions that you may want to ask each sonography school before deciding.

Are the Sonogram Tech Schools Accredited? A large number of ultrasound technician colleges have received some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. Nevertheless, it’s still crucial to confirm that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Schools obtaining accreditation from the JRC-DMS have gone through a rigorous assessment of their instructors and course materials. If the school is online it may also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets online or distance education. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to guaranteeing a superior education, accreditation will also assist in acquiring financial assistance and student loans, which are frequently not available for non-accredited programs. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And numerous Concordville PA health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited program for entry level positions.

Are Internships Provided? Inquire if the sonogram tech schools you are interested in have partnerships with Concordville PA clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships an excellent manner to obtain hands on experience in a clinical setting, they are also a way to fulfill the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a secondary benefit, they may assist graduates and students form professional connections in the Concordville healthcare community and assist with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Assistance offered? You will most likely want to hit the ground running after graduation, but finding that first job in a new field can be challenging without support. Ask if the sonographer schools you are reviewing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have large networks and great relationships with Pennsylvania healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the College Located? For a number of students, the college they decide on will need to be within commuting distance of their Concordville PA residence. Students who have chosen to attend classes online obviously will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of concern. Something to consider is that if you decide to enroll in a college that is out of state or even out of your local area, you might have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges commonly charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges often charge a higher tuition for those students that live outside of their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the sort of student that prefers to sit far in the back of class or hide in the crowd, you will undoubtedly prefer a small class size. Smaller classes enable more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the schools you are researching what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you an opportunity to talk with some of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the sonogram technician program also.

Can the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must verify that the sonographer  college you finally pick can provide the class schedule you need. This is especially essential if you opt to continue working while you attend classes. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in the Concordville PA area, make sure that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, check if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would have to enroll in. Also, ask what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss because of work, illness or family obligations.

    Concordville, Pennsylvania

Concordville is an unincorporated community in Concord Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is located 20 miles west-southwest of Philadelphia, at the junction of U.S. Routes 1 and 322. This intersection can be traced back to two of the earliest roads in Pennsylvania, Baltimore Pike which became U.S. 1, and Concord Pike, which connected Pennsylvania with Delaware.[3]

The first European settlement in the area occurred about 1700, after Quakers bought land from William Penn. Two Friends Meetinghouses (formerly Orthodox and Hicksite) are located in the village. The Orthodox meetinghouse was built in the first half of the nineteenth century, while the Hicksites retained the original meetinghouse (built 1728, reconstructed and expanded 1788). The two factions have since merged and now meet in the original meetinghouse. Part of the village was added to the National Register in 1973.[4]
