Among the most highly regarded accrediting organizations is the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Topics to Ask Sonography Programs

Questions to ask Kettlersville OH ultrasound technician schoolsAfter you have decided on which certificate or degree that you would like to earn, you can start the procedure of evaluating and comparing sonogram tech schools. You may first want to decide whether you would rather access classes online or commute to a college campus in the Kettlersville OH area. Obviously location will be important if you decide on the latter, and the cost of tuition no doubt will be an initial qualifier also. But there are additional variables that you must also take into account, such as if the colleges are accredited and if they offer internships. So in order to carry out your due diligence so that you can arrive at your final selection, below are some questions that you may want to ask each sonographer program prior to making a decision.

Are the Sonogram Technician Schools Accredited? Most sonogram tech schools have obtained some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. Even so, it’s still crucial to verify that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Programs obtaining accreditation from the JRC-DMS have gone through a detailed review of their instructors and educational materials. If the program is online it can also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets online or distance learning. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides ensuring a superior education, accreditation will also help in securing financial assistance and student loans, which are many times not available for non-accredited programs. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And a number of Kettlersville OH health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited college for entry-level positions.

Are Internship Programs Offered? Ask if the sonogram technician colleges you are interested in have partnerships with Kettlersville OH clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific way to receive hands on experience in a clinical setting, they are also a means to satisfy the practical training requirement for most programs. As a secondary benefit, they may assist graduates and students develop professional connections in the Kettlersville medical community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance provided? You will undoubtedly wish to secure employment quickly after graduating, but getting that initial job in a new field can be challenging without assistance. Find out if the ultrasound tech programs you are assessing have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have sizable networks and good relationships with Ohio healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their students are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the School Located? For many students, the school they decide on will need to be within commuting distance of their Kettlersville OH home. Individuals who have decided to attend online classes naturally will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. One thing to keep in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges often charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

How Large are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of student that likes to sit way in the back of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will probably prefer a small class size. Smaller classes enable more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the schools you are looking at what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you a chance to converse with some of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the ultrasound technician program as well.

Can the College Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to verify that the sonographer  school you ultimately choose can furnish the class schedule you need. This is especially crucial if you decide to continue working while attending classes. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in the Kettlersville OH area, make sure that they are available. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, find out if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would have to carry. Also, learn what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss as a result of work, illness or family emergencies.
