One of the most highly respected accrediting agencies is the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Accreditation is especially significant for licensing, certification and job placement (more on accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn outside of the classroom in the convenience of your own home, then an online school could be the ideal option for you.

Points to Ask Ultrasound Technician Colleges

Questions to ask Lattimore NC ultrasound technician schoolsWhen you have decided on which certificate or degree that you would like to obtain, you can start the procedure of evaluating and comparing ultrasound tech colleges. You will first probably want to choose whether you would rather access classes online or commute to a school campus in the Lattimore NC area. Of course location will be significant if you decide on the latter, and the cost of tuition undoubtedly will be an important qualification also. But there are other things that you must also take into account, for instance if the programs are accredited and if they offer internships. So in order to carry out your due diligence so that you can arrive at your final selection, following are several questions that you may want to ask each sonography college prior to making a decision.

Are the Sonogram Tech Programs Accredited? A large number of ultrasound tech colleges have obtained some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. However, it’s still important to make sure that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Programs earning accreditation from the JRC-DMS have gone through a detailed examination of their instructors and educational materials. If the program is online it can also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online learning. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with ensuring a premium education, accreditation will also help in obtaining financial aid and student loans, which are many times not available for non-accredited schools. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And many Lattimore NC health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry-level positions.

Are Internships Provided? Find out if the sonogram technician schools you are evaluating have associations with Lattimore NC clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Internships are not only a terrific manner to receive hands on experience in a clinical environment, they are additionally a means to satisfy the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As an ancillary benefit, they may assist graduates and students establish professional connections in the Lattimore medical community and help with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance provided? You will probably wish to secure employment quickly after graduation, but getting that first job in a new profession can be difficult without assistance. Ask if the ultrasound tech schools you are considering have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have substantial networks and great relationships with North Carolina healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their students are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the School Located? For many students, the school they select will have to be within driving distance of their Lattimore NC residence. Students who have opted to attend classes online obviously will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. Something to consider is that if you decide to enroll in a program that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges typically charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges commonly charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

How Large are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of person that likes to sit way in the back of class or get lost in the crowd, you will likely prefer a smaller class size. Small classes allow for more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the colleges you are considering what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you an opportunity to converse with a few of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the sonogram tech program as well.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must verify that the ultrasound tech  school you ultimately choose can offer the class schedule you need. This is especially important if you opt to continue working while you attend school. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in the Lattimore NC area, confirm that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, check if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would have to enroll in. Also, ask what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss because of illness, work or family obligations.
