You will first probably want to decide whether you would rather attend classes online or commute to a school campus in the Dundee NY area. Clearly location will be significant if you decide on the latter, and the price of tuition no doubt will be an important qualifier as well. Therefore in order to perform your due diligence so that you can arrive at your final selection, below are some questions that you may want to ask each sonographer college before deciding.

Are the Sonogram Tech Programs Accredited? A large number of ultrasound technician colleges have acquired some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. However, it’s still imperative to verify that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly regarded accrediting agencies in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Programs receiving accreditation from the JRC-DMS have gone through a rigorous evaluation of their teachers and course materials. If the program is online it may also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online education. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with ensuring a quality education, accreditation will also help in securing financial aid and student loans, which are many times not accessible for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And a number of Dundee NY health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited program for entry level openings.

Are Internships Provided? Ask if the ultrasound technician schools you are evaluating have partnerships with Dundee NY hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only a terrific means to obtain hands on experience in a clinical setting, they are additionally a means to satisfy the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As an ancillary benefit, they may assist graduates and students develop professional connections in the Dundee medical community and assist with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Help offered? You will undoubtedly want to secure employment quickly after graduation, but getting that initial job in a new profession can be difficult without help. Ask if the ultrasound tech schools you are interviewing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have substantial networks and good relationships with New York healthcare employers. It also confirms that their students are well regarded and in demand.

Where is the Program Located? For a number of students, the college they pick will have to be within driving distance of their Dundee NY residence. Students who have decided to attend classes online obviously will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. One thing to consider is that if you decide to enroll in a program that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges usually charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges usually charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of student that likes to sit far in the back of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will undoubtedly want a smaller class size. Small classes permit more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the colleges you are looking at what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you a chance to converse with some of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the sonogram technician program also.

Does the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must verify that the ultrasound tech  college you finally pick can furnish the class schedule you need. This is especially crucial if you opt to continue working while you attend school. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in the Dundee NY area, make sure that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, find out if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would need to enroll in. Also, learn what the protocol is for making up any classes that you might miss due to illness, work or family emergencies.
