Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp

The Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp is an American aircraft engine widely used in the 1930s and 1940s. Produced by Pratt & Whitney, it is a two-row, 14-cylinder, air-cooled radial design with seven cylinders on a row. It displaces 1,830 cu in (30.0 L) and its bore and stroke are both 5.5 in (140 mm). A total of 173,618 R-1830 engines were built,[1] and from their use in two of the most-produced aircraft ever built, the four-engined B-24 heavy bomber and twin-engined DC-3 transport, more Twin Wasps may have been built than any other aviation piston engine in history. A "bored-out" version (to a 5.75 inch/146 mm cylinder bore) with a slightly higher power rating and other slight changes in detail design was produced as the R-2000. Mostly retired today, it is still used on Douglas DC-3 and various museum aircraft and warbirds seen at airshows. It is not manufactured anymore, but spares are still available and there exists a wide market for second-hand engines and parts.

Williams, South Carolina

Williams is located in northern Colleton County at 33°2′3″N 80°50′35″W / 33.03417°N 80.84306°W / 33.03417; -80.84306 (33.034076, -80.842928).[5] It is 16 miles (26 km) northwest of Walterboro, the county seat.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 116 people, 48 households, and 33 families residing in the town. The population density was 147.5 people per square mile (56.7/km²). There were 59 housing units at an average density of 75.0 per square mile (28.8/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 53.45% White, 44.83% African American, 0.86% from other races, and 0.86% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.86% of the population.

There were 48 households out of which 20.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.4% were married couples living together, 10.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.2% were non-families. 25.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.91.

Williamston, South Carolina

Williamston is located in northeastern Anderson County at 34°37′4″N 82°28′45″W / 34.61778°N 82.47917°W / 34.61778; -82.47917 (34.617699, -82.479256).[5] The twin towns of Pelzer and West Pelzer are 2 miles (3 km) to the north. Anderson, the county seat, is 15 miles (24 km) to the southwest.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.7 square miles (9.5 km2), of which 3.6 square miles (9.4 km2) is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km2), or 1.01%, is water.[6]

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 3,791 people, 1,590 households, and 1,090 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,056.2 people per square mile (407.7/km²). There were 1,762 housing units at an average density of 490.9 per square mile (189.5/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 80.80% White, 17.67% African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.66% from other races, and 0.69% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.74% of the population.

Williston, South Carolina

The town lies in the center of the Charleston-Hamburg railroad line, the line of the Best Friend locomotive. The train tracks were removed in the 1990s, but the track site has been designated as historically significant by the South Carolina Department of Archives. This section of the train route is now part of the South Carolina Heritage Corridor.

There are three schools in the town: Williston-Elko High School, Williston-Elko Middle School, and Kelly Edwards Elementary School. A private school in Blackville, Jefferson-Davis Academy, also serves a portion of the town's population.

Williston is located in northern Barnwell County at 33°24′02″N 81°25′21″W / 33.400553°N 81.422421°W / 33.400553; -81.422421.[5]U.S. Route 78 passes through the center of the town, leading east 9 miles (14 km) to Blackville and northwest 21 miles (34 km) to Aiken.

Windsor, South Carolina

The name of the town of Windsor likely originated from the 1813 will of Anderson Windsor, who owned land on Pond Branch and Yarrow Branch, near the present location of Windsor. Also known as the Home of Social Media Icon Tobie Stevens.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 127 people, 52 households, and 34 families residing in the town. The population density was 126.7 people per square mile (49.0/km2). There were 63 housing units at an average density of 62.8 per square mile (24.3/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 69.29% White, 27.56% African American, 2.36% Native American, 0.79% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.36% of the population.

There were 52 households out of which 36.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.8% were married couples living together, 9.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.6% were non-families. 28.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 3.09.

SC Waterloo Region

SC Waterloo Region is a professional Canadian soccer team that plays in the Canadian Soccer League, a non-FIFA-sanctioned league. The club was formed in 2011 under the name KW United FC and competed in the Second Division of the CSL. The following year the organization's name was changed to SC Waterloo Region and was promoted to the First Division. Within a short time Waterloo enjoyed a string of success within the league. Their biggest achievement came in the 2013 season by winning the CSL Championship, and reaching the championship match finals once more in 2015 only to lose to Toronto Croatia. In 2016, the organization voluntarily relegated itself to the CSL Second Division.

In 2011, professional soccer returned to the Kitchener-Waterloo region since 1991 when the Kitchener Kickers competed in the original Canadian Soccer League. The team owners Tony Kocis and Vojislav Brisevac served as the club president, team manager, and secured a deal with Jako to sponsor the club. The club was named Kitchener-Waterloo United FC and began play in the Canadian Soccer League Second Division.[1][2] The team's original venue was located at Budd Park. In their debut season United finished fourth in their division and secured a postseason berth.[3] At the conclusion of the season Ryan Pumier received the Goalkeeper of the Year award.[4][5]

The following season the club was renamed SC Waterloo Region in order to strengthen ties with youth club Waterloo Minor Soccer Club, and was promoted to the CSL First Division.[6] Their home venue was moved to University Stadium, and part owner Lazo Džepina with coaching credentials from Europe and the CSL assumed head coach responsibilities.[7] Džepina's recruitment of players consisted primarily from the Yugoslavian countries players like Adis Hasecic, Nemanja Simeunovic, Vladimir Zelenbaba, Drazen Vukovic, Dado Hadrovic, and Haris Fazlagic was selected as team captain. Waterloo made their First Division debut on May 6, 2012 against Windsor Stars in a 2-0 victory with both goals coming from Hadrovic.[8][9] In their inaugural season the club finished ninth in the overall standings, and missed the final postseason berth by two points. At the CSL awards banquet Vukovic received the CSL Golden Boot for finishing as the league's top goalscorer with 20 goals.[10][11]

Winnsboro, South Carolina

Winnsboro is a town in Fairfield County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 3,550 at the 2010 census.[4] It is the county seat of Fairfield County.[5] Winnsboro is part of the Columbia, South Carolina Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Based on archeological evidence, this area of the Piedmonth was occupied by various cultures of indigenous peoples from as early as the Archaic period, about 1500 BC. Blair Mound is a nearby archeological site and earthwork likely occupied 1300-1400 AD, as part of the late Mississippian culture in the region.[6]

Several years before the Revolutionary War, Richard Winn from Virginia moved to what is now Fairfield County in the upland or Piedmont area of South Carolina. His lands included the present site of Winnsboro. As early as 1777, the settlement was known as "Winnsborough" since he was the major landowner. His brothers John and Minor Winn joined him there, adding to family founders.

Wedgefield, South Carolina

Wedgefield is an unincorporated community in the High Hills of Santee area in western Sumter County, South Carolina, United States. Wedgefield is also a Census Designated Place (CDP). Wedgefield was so named because its location was likened to a "wedge" into the High Hills of Santee.[2] In the 18th and 19th centuries it was the location of many plantations, notably those of the Singleton family, which produced First Lady of the United States, Angelica Singleton Van Buren.[3] Today the plantations are gone except for their cemeteries and Wedgefield is today noted as the location of a state park, a state forest and other recreational places. When the railroad came through in the 19th century, the commercial center of Wedgefield developed at the intersection of the railroad, Kings Highway (South Carolina Highway 261) and Wedgefield Road (South Carolina Highway 763). It has its own post office with the Zip Code of 29168.

South Carolina Highway 261, Kings Highway, is the main north-south road in Wedgefield. It runs north to Stateburg and south to Pinewood. Wedgefield Road (South Carolina Highway 763) begins in Wedgefield and runs east to Sumter.[7][8]CSX Transportation, formerly the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad runs into Wedgefield from Sumter just north of Wedgefield Road and continues to the west. There is no passenger service to Wedgefield.

Woodruff, South Carolina

The earliest history of this area begins with the membership of the Church of Christ on Jamey's Creek dated September 18, 1787. The church was named for Jamey's Creek, now called Jimmie's Creek, which heads off McArthur Street behind the Woodruff State Branch Bank on North Main Street. The early members traveled some distance to attend this church. They were from the communities of Cavins, Enoree, Crescent, Switzer and even others in Laurens County. Most of the early settlers had come from Virginia and North Carolina. They were primarily veterans of the Revolution and their families.

Joseph Woodruff received a grant of 200 acres (81 ha), which would later become the site of the city of Woodruff. He came to this area from the Yadkin River valley in North Carolina after his service in the Revolution. The first census of Spartanburg District, in 1790, shows who his neighbors were. All of these people were farmers. There were a few country stores in those days, and these were supplied by "Wagoner's".

One of Joseph Woodruff's sons, Thomas, remained in the area and dreamed of founding a town, but he did not live to see Woodruff incorporated. His two sons, Dr. Charles Pinckney Woodruff and Captain A. B. Woodruff, were most instrumental in carrying out their father's wishes. Therefore, the town was named in Thomas Woodruff's honor.

Wellford, South Carolina

Wellford was founded in 1840 by a man named Wellington, who was building a railroad in the area. He settled and named the town Wellington. When the town was chartered on December 9, 1882, the name was changed to Wellford.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 2,030 people, 822 households, and 571 families residing in the city. The population density was 993.8 people per square mile (384.2/km²). There were 910 housing units at an average density of 445.5 per square mile (172.2/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 48.92% African American, 46.70% White, 0.39% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 2.32% from other races, and 1.33% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.60% of the population.

There were 822 households out of which 25.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.2% were married couples living together, 25.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.5% were non-families. 25.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.94.
