Stanton KY ultrasound tech with patientThere are multiple acceptable titles for ultrasound techs (technicians). They are also referred to as sonogram techs, diagnostic medical sonographers (or just sonographers) and ultrasound technologists. No matter what their title is, they all have the same basic job description, which is to carry out diagnostic ultrasound procedures on patients. Although many practice as generalists there are specializations within the profession, for instance in pediatrics and cardiology. Most practice in Stanton KY clinics, hospitals, private practices or outpatient diagnostic imaging centers. Routine daily job tasks of an ultrasound tech can consist of:

  • Keeping records of patient medical histories and details of each procedure
  • Counseling patients by explaining the procedures and answering questions
  • Readying the ultrasound machines for testing and then sterilizing and re-calibrating them
  • Escorting patients to treatment rooms and ensuring their comfort

Ultrasound techs must frequently evaluate the performance and safety of their equipment. They also must adhere to a high ethical standard and code of conduct as health practitioners. In order to sustain that level of professionalism and remain up to date with medical knowledge, they are required to complete continuing education courses on a regular basis.

Ultrasound Tech Degree Programs Offered

Stanton KY ultrasound technician performing sonographyUltrasound technician enrollees have the choice to acquire either an Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree will typically involve about 18 months to 2 years to finish depending on the program and class load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at up to 4 years to finish. Another option for those who have previously obtained a college degree is a post graduate certificate program. If you have earned a Bachelor’s Degree in any major or an Associate Degree in a relevant health sector, you can instead choose a certificate program that will require only 12 to 18 months to complete. Something to bear in mind is that almost all sonographer schools do have a practical training component as a portion of their curriculum. It can often be fulfilled by taking part in an internship program which numerous colleges sponsor through Stanton KY clinics and hospitals. When you have graduated from any of the degree or certificate programs, you will then have to comply with the certification or licensing requirements in Kentucky or whichever state you choose to practice in.

Ultrasound Tech Online Programs

student attending online sonography class in Stanton KYAs earlier discussed, almost all sonogram tech colleges have a practical component to their programs. So while you can receive a certificate or degree online, a substantial part of the training will be either carried out in an on campus laboratory or at a sponsored off campus medical care provider. Clinical training can usually be satisfied by means of an internship at a local Stanton KY hospital, outpatient clinic or family practice. However the remainder of the training and classes can be accessed online in your Stanton home. This is especially beneficial for those students that keep working while earning their degrees. Plus online schools are frequently less expensive than traditional options. Expenses for commuting and study materials can be lessened also. But just as with any sonography school you are reviewing, confirm that the online program you select is accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting organizations is the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Accreditation is especially crucial for licensing, certification and finding employment (more on accreditation later). So if you are motivated enough to attend classes outside of the classroom in the convenience of your own home, then online classes may be the right option for you.

Topics to Ask Ultrasound Tech Programs

Questions to ask Stanton KY ultrasound technician schoolsNow that you have decided on the type of certificate or degree that you would like to obtain, you can begin the procedure of assessing and comparing sonogram technician schools. You will first probably want to choose whether you will access classes online or commute to a college campus in the Stanton KY area. Certainly location will be important if you select the latter, and the price of tuition no doubt will be an initial qualification also. But there are additional things that you must also take into consideration, for example if the programs are accredited and if they provide internship programs. So in order to complete your due diligence so that you can arrive at your final selection, below are a few questions that you may want to ask each ultrasound tech college prior to making a decision.

Are the Ultrasound Tech Schools Accredited? The majority of sonogram tech schools have earned some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. Nevertheless, it’s still important to verify that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Programs earning accreditation from the JRC-DMS have gone through a rigorous examination of their instructors and course materials. If the college is online it may also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online education. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to ensuring a quality education, accreditation will also help in acquiring financial assistance and student loans, which are frequently not accessible for non-accredited schools. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And a number of Stanton KY employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry-level jobs.

Are Internship Programs Offered? Inquire if the sonogram tech programs you are interested in have associations with Stanton KY clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific manner to get practical experience in a clinical setting, they are additionally a means to satisfy the clinical training requirement for most programs. As a secondary benefit, they can help graduates and students form professional connections in the Stanton medical community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help provided? You will undoubtedly want to secure employment quickly after graduation, but getting that first job in a new field can be difficult without assistance. Find out if the ultrasound tech schools you are reviewing have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good sign that the schools have sizable networks and good relationships with Kentucky healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are well regarded and in demand.

Where is the College Located? For a number of students, the school they pick will need to be within driving distance of their Stanton KY residence. Those who have decided to attend online classes obviously will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. One thing to consider is that if you choose to enroll in a program that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges commonly charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges normally charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the type of student that prefers to sit way in the back of class or get lost in the crowd, you will probably prefer a small class size. Small classes enable more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the schools you are looking at what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you a chance to talk with some of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the ultrasound technician program also.

Can the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must confirm that the ultrasound tech  school you ultimately choose can furnish the class schedule you need. This is especially crucial if you choose to continue working while attending school. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in the Stanton KY area, confirm that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, verify if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would have to carry. Also, ask what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss due to work, illness or family emergencies.

    Stanton, Kentucky

The first post office to be located in present-day Stanton was established on July 7, 1849 and was named Beaver Pond, because of the settlement's proximity to a small body of water resulting from a beaver dam.[3] In 1852, both the post office and the settlement were renamed Stanton for Richard H. Stanton, who served in Congress from 1849 to 1855 and later as a U.S. senator.[4]

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Stanton (and nearby Clay City) were booming logging centers for Eastern Kentucky. The city was also connected to much of the country by a railroad that went through the city and county. Since then the railroad has been removed. The original train depot still exists and is home to the Powell County Tourism Association.

The representative body of the city of Stanton is the city council. The council members include: Dixie Lockard, Margarita Arnett, Pam McIntosh Tipton, Charlotte Estes, Linville Bellamy, and Tommy Mays.[6]
