So if you are disciplined enough to learn outside of the classroom in the convenience of your own home, then online classes may be the ideal choice for you.

You will first probably want to choose whether you would rather access classes online or commute to a school campus in the Epsom NH area. Naturally location will be critical if you decide on the latter, and the cost of tuition undoubtedly will be an important qualification as well. But there are other factors that you should also take into account, for instance if the programs are accredited and if they offer internship programs. So in order to complete your due diligence so that you can arrive at your final selection, following are a few questions that you need ask each sonographer school before deciding.

Are the Sonogram Tech Schools Accredited? Most ultrasound tech schools have earned some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. Even so, it’s still important to make sure that the program and school are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Schools receiving accreditation from the JRC-DMS have undergone a detailed evaluation of their teachers and educational materials. If the program is online it might also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online learning. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with guaranteeing a quality education, accreditation will also help in obtaining financial assistance and student loans, which are frequently not accessible for non-accredited programs. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And many Epsom NH employers will only hire graduates of an accredited college for entry level openings.

Are Internship Programs Provided? Ask if the ultrasound technician programs you are assessing have partnerships with Epsom NH hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only an excellent means to get hands on experience in a clinical setting, they are also a means to fulfill the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As an ancillary benefit, they can assist graduates and students establish professional relationships in the Epsom health care community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help available? You will undoubtedly want to hit the ground running after graduating, but finding that first job in a new field can be difficult without support. Find out if the sonographer programs you are reviewing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have substantial networks and good relationships with New Hampshire healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are well regarded and in demand.

Where is the Program Located? For a number of students, the school they choose will have to be within travelling distance of their Epsom NH residence. Students who have chosen to attend classes online naturally will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. One thing to consider is that if you choose to enroll in a college that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges commonly charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges often charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

How Large are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of student that likes to sit far in the rear of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will likely prefer a smaller class size. Smaller classes enable more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the colleges you are researching what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate determination. This will also give you a chance to speak with some of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the sonogram tech program as well.

Does the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must verify that the ultrasound tech  program you finally select can furnish the class schedule you need. This is especially crucial if you decide to continue working while attending classes. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in the Epsom NH area, verify that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, check if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would need to enroll in. Also, ask what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss as a result of illness, work or family obligations.
