One of the most highly regarded accrediting agencies is the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Accreditation is especially crucial for licensing, certification and finding employment (more on accreditation later). So if you are motivated enough to attend classes away from the classroom in the convenience of your own home, then an online degree could be the right choice for you.

Questions to Ask Ultrasound Tech Schools

Questions to ask Saint George KS ultrasound technician schoolsAfter you have decided on the type of certificate or degree that you would like to obtain, you can start the process of assessing and comparing sonogram technician schools. You will first probably want to choose whether you would rather attend classes online or travel to a college campus in the Saint George KS area. Obviously location will be significant if you select the latter, and the cost of tuition no doubt will be an important qualification as well. But there are additional things that you should also take into consideration, for instance if the schools are accredited and if they provide internship programs. So in order to carry out your due diligence so that you can make your ultimate selection, below are some questions that you need ask each ultrasound tech college before deciding.

Are the Sonogram Tech Colleges Accredited? The majority of ultrasound technician colleges have obtained some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. Even so, it’s still imperative to verify that the program and school are accredited. Among the most highly regarded accrediting agencies in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Schools earning accreditation from the JRC-DMS have undergone an extensive evaluation of their instructors and course materials. If the program is online it may also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online learning. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides ensuring a quality education, accreditation will also assist in acquiring financial assistance and student loans, which are many times not available for non-accredited schools. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And many Saint George KS health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited college for entry-level openings.

Are Internship Programs Provided? Inquire if the ultrasound technician programs you are evaluating have relationships with Saint George KS clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships a great manner to get hands on experience in a clinical setting, they are additionally a means to satisfy the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As an ancillary benefit, they can help students and graduates establish professional connections in the Saint George healthcare community and assist with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Help available? You will most likely want to hit the ground running after graduating, but finding that first job in a new field can be difficult without assistance. Ask if the ultrasound tech programs you are reviewing have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are a good indication that the schools have sizable networks and great relationships with Kansas healthcare employers. It also confirms that their students are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the College Located? For many students, the college they pick will need to be within commuting distance of their Saint George KS residence. Individuals who have chosen to attend online classes naturally will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of concern. One thing to bear in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a college that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges generally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges commonly charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the type of student that prefers to sit far in the back of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will probably want a smaller class size. Smaller classes permit more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the colleges you are considering what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to sit in on one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you an opportunity to converse with several of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the sonogram tech program also.

Can the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must verify that the sonographer  school you ultimately pick can furnish the class schedule you need. This is particularly important if you decide to continue working while you attend classes. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in the Saint George KS area, make sure that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, verify if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would have to enroll in. Also, learn what the protocol is for making up any classes that you might miss due to work, illness or family emergencies.
